Transparent Discharge Plates (TDP)
Taking Kirlian photographs with a digital camera or low-light video camera requires a transparent discharge plate. We recommend a digital camera with macro mode (close-up) and the ability to make long, multi-second exposures. Shutter speeds of 1–15 seconds are good.
The photographs below show a coin photographed through the transparent discharge plate using a 35mm film camera and a digital camera. The third image was enhanced using Photoshop.
Using a Digital Camera
High-voltage Kirlian photography using a transparent discharge plate and digital camera.
The digital camera needs three features: manual focus, a long exposure time of 10 seconds or more, and a macro (close-up) setting.
Using a Video Camera

The video camera needs two features: manual focus and low-light sensitivity of approximately .003 lux.
